Manuscript Summary:
Manuscript Summary
This richly illustrated German-language history Bible (“Historienbibel”) was created around 1450/1455 in the workshop of Diebold Lauber in Hagenau (Alsace). The vernacular text is written by a single hand in Bastarda and is accompanied by 79 colored pen-and-ink drawings, which often depict biblical and apocryphal scenes in a narrative fashion. The presentation of the text and images follows a uniform design. Around 1700, the manuscript was in the possession of the chapter of Augustinian canons of Kreuzlingen. (glo)
